The distribution of Lewy bodies in the central and autonomic nervous systems in idiopathic paralysis agitans.
The hyaline inclusions in the pigmented ganglion cells of the substantia nigra and the locus coeruleus in patients suffering from idiopathic paralysis agitans are known as Lewy bodies after their discoverer, Lewy (1913). A detailed description of these bodies was presented by Greenfield and Bosanquet in 1953. The intracytoplasmic bodies are always surrounded by a light halo, and often have a ce...
متن کاملThe incidence and characteristics of Lewy bodies in idiopathic paralysis agitans (Parkinson's disease).
In 1913, the Breslau neurologist Lewy described globular inclusions of cytoplasmic condensations in the cells of the nucleus substantiae innominatae and the dorsal vagal nucleus in paralysis agitans. These cell inclusions have since been described by many other investigators. In 1923, Lewy also found them in the pigmented ganglion cells of the substantia nigra in Parkinson's disease. Tretiakoff...

متن کاملProfound hypotension immediately following insertion of methyl methacrylate during bipolar endoprosthesis in a patient with long-term levodopa-treated paralysis agitans.
Insertion of methyl methacrylate polymer into newly reamed bony cavities has sometimes resulted in profound hypotension, cardiac arrest, or sudden death which are more common in patients with hemodynamic instability or hypovolemia. In paralysis agitans(Parkinson's disease), dramatic worsening of the disease often occurs when another illness or trauma accompanies it. And it is possible that chro...
متن کاملAcute Finger Paralysis: A Case Report of Cortical Ischemic Stroke
Somatotopic distribution of motor cortex and sensory fibers is theoretically fully understood. We present a case of stroke, mimicking peripheral palsy, with finger paralysis attributed to cortical lesion. The patient’s brain MRI may be useful to further understand the somatotopic representation of fingers in precentral and postcentral gyrus.
